LOCATION OF VENUES
GETTING TO AUCKLAND
Auckland has a bustling airport that offers regular domestic and international services.
New Zealand is a 3.5 hour flight from Eastern Australia and around a 10 hour flight from most places on the Pacific Rim, such as Singapore, Hong Kong or Tokyo.
Auckland is generally less than 2 hours flight from any other New Zealand city.
New Zealand has a high quality roading network for getting around the country.
GETTING AROUND AUCKLAND
Auckland has a network of public trains and buses to get around central Auckland as well as ferry services to get across the harbour. Full details of available services and timetables are available on the Auckland Transport website
To travel further afield having your own car is best. Auckland’s motorway system quickly gets you out of the beautiful downtown buzz of Auckland’s waterfront to any of the city’s fringe attractions and competition areas.
In New Zealand, all vehicles drive on the left. That means visitors from some countries might need a bit of adjustment, while English and Australians will feel right at home.
Hiring a car is straightforward in Auckland, and throughout most of New Zealand. Most major rental car companies have depots at Auckland Airport and in downtown Auckland, with a wide range of vehicles available for hire. More details are available on the Tourism Auckland website.
Additionally, we recommend you visit the New Zealand Transport Agency website for further information about driving on New Zealand roads.
MOVING FROM THE LAST OCEANIA EVENT TO THE MIDDLE EARTH EVENTS IN ROTORUA
For those competing in both Oceania and Middle Earth events, we recommend you find accommodation further south after the Oceania Middle, rather than returning to Auckland. This will mean you avoid the worst of Auckland traffic at the end of Easter weekend.
GETTING TO THE MIDDLE EARTH COMPETITIONS
Rotorua is about 230km from Auckland which takes approximately 3 hours on New Zealand’s well maintained and very scenic roads. There are several bus companies which provide transport between the two cities. Alternatively, traveling in private or rental car is a convenient option.

TRANSPORT
The Sprint Distance competition can be reached from downtown Auckland or further afield by public transport.
The Long, Relay and Middle distance competitions will require competitors to have their own transport to the event venue.
To travel to Rotorua for the Middle Earth Competitions there are several bus companies providing transport for the 3.5 hour journey. Once in Rotorua competitors may require their own transport to get to the Middle Distance competition, which is a walkable 4km from the centre of town. The Sprint Distance competition is within central Rotorua.

PARKING VOUCHERS FAQs
Why parking vouchers?
Forest and farm access and parking for cars and buses is charged by the venue owners and the modest fees charged recover this cost on a per vehicle basis.
Why pre-purchase?
Pre-purchase of parking vouchers will speed up access and parking versus on the day cash transactions. Pre-purchase lets the organisers know how many vehicles will need to be ‘parked’ each day and will allow this to be managed to give athletes the shortest possible walk to the Event Arena.
Available to buy on the day?
Yes, at an inflated price to discourage on the day purchase. Sale of on-the-day parking will be via a ‘slow’ lane at the forest gate so expect delays if you plan on buying parking on the day.
Are they transferable?
No
Maps of the parking areas
Parking area maps will be published on the event website, under sport information, and in Bulletin 2, due for publication during March 2017.
Do older competitors get a closer park?
Yes, this is available. Please talk to the parking marshals who will direct you to the closest parking point still available.
Come & go – multiple entries to forest?
Yes, multiple exits and entries are enabled.
What if I lose my Parking Voucher?
The information tent at all events will be able to issue replacement (white) vouchers.
The gate marshals will allow access to vehicles where a parking voucher has been lost. They will record the name of the person the voucher was issued to and the vehicle registration number before allowing entry.

Auckland Trotting Club Events
We thank the Auckland Trotting Club for parking provided during the Carnival.
Alexandra Park (the Auckland Trotting Club) is Auckland’s home of harness racing with 37 race nights per annum, and are assisting us with parking for one of our events. They are holding a couple of race meets during our Orienteering Carnival with an American Themed evening on Friday 21st April, including an all-you-can eat buffet, and their Autumn Trotting Carnival on Friday 28th April. Orienteering would not happen without the generosity of landowners in allowing us to use their facilities, so if you are looking for some excitement on Friday evening, why not enjoy an evening with the horses.
