21-30 April – World Masters Orienteering Championships (at World Masters Games)
Orienteering New Zealand is proud to host the Orienteering competition at the World Masters Games 2017 which is also the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) Masters Orienteering World Championships.
All detailed information and the entry process for the World Masters Games 2017 is on the World Masters Games webpage but some high level information is below:
BULLETIN ONE
The World Masters Games 2017 Orienteering Sports Information Guide (Bulletin One) is available. It includes:
- full details of competition dates and times;
- events and format which includes a breakdown of age categories;
- competition rules;
- and venue detail
As further information comes to hand the Sports Information Guide will be updated so please make sure you check that you have the most up to date version.

Long Model, Long Qual and Long Final
Sprint Model, Sprint Qual and Sprint Final
PROPOSED AGE CATEGORIES
Men and Women: 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, 60+, 65+, 70+, 75+, 80+, 85+, 90+, 95+
The age category you will compete in for Orienteering will be determined as at 31 December 2017.
For example, if you are 39 during Games time but have turned 40 by 31 December, you would compete in the 40+ age category.
VENUES
Long Distance – Woodhill Forest, located 47.5km North West of Auckland Central
Sprint Model – The University of Auckland (Epsom Campus), located just over 5km south of Auckland Central
Sprint Qualification – Auckland Waterfront, right in the heart of the city
Sprint Final – The University of Auckland (City Campus), also right in the heart of the city

- Saturday 22 April 2017 – Model event – sprint
- Sunday 23 April 2017 – Sprint qualification

PUBLIC RACES
Regrettably there will be no public races run in conjunction with Orienteering events at the World Masters Orienteering Championships, as part of World Masters Games 2017. The local organising team sincerely apologises for any inconvenience. The focus remains on planning a successful Masters event in Auckland in 2017.
