Welcome to NZSSOC2023
Marlborough Orienteering Club (MOC) invites all Year 7 – 13 orienteers to celebrate high quality orienteering in the top of the South Island of New Zealand for the 2023 New Zealand Secondary School Orienteering Championships, from Thursday 13 – Saturday 15 July 2023! We look forward to welcoming fellow students from the South and the North Island of New Zealand!
This event is sanctioned by School Sport New Zealand and supported by Orienteering New Zealand.
Many thanks and acknowledgements are due all around for those volunteers contributing a great deal of time to plan, control and organise this event.
Special thanks are due to Marlborough Orienteering Club’s amazing sponsor, Smart Alliances, for their unwavering support for everybody orienteering in the Marlborough region. MOC is also grateful for a very generous mapping grant awarded from Marlborough District Council’s Commercial Events Fund, allowing for the total or partially re-mapping of all three maps used in this championship.
The three sponsors of the filming of the NZSSOC2023 Long Individual Champs, Caltex, NZ Carbon Farming and Bayleys, are each putting up a social media competition for participants at this event, with the deadline Wednesday 12 July at noon – for more information, please visit Orienteering NZ’s Facebook page.

The Relay list is based on the latest information given to the organisation on Friday 14 July, with composite teams created by the NZSSOC2023 organisation. Relay bibs can be collected from Registration in the hour before the 10 am briefing. The bibs are organised by school, ideally picked up by the school coordinator. The name of the student is written on the back of the bib.
Please remember to bring your own safety pins – none avaiable on the day.
The Relay teams can be downloaded here.
Members of a composite team unaware of their bib number can come to the Timing team to learn their bib number, still to be picked up from Registration.
Live result streaming is set up for both the Long and Sprint events, so parents, school teachers and anybody else with an internet connection can follow both events, available from the first starts at 10AM on both Thursday and Friday.
