Start Times

For the Sprint and the Long events each student has an allocated start time. The start times are now published in the documents below. The relay uses a mass start for each class – check Bulletin Two for these start times.

Rules

The event will be run under the NZ Foot Orienteering Rules as published by Orienteering NZ on its website, including the Special Rules for New Zealand Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships where they deviate from the standard competition rules

Embargoes

Sprint

University of Auckland Epsom Campus, Auckland Normal Intermediate and Kohia Terrace Primary School are embargoed except for students who for education, sport or other purpose have a legitimate reason to be on the grounds. Any competitors entering this area with an orienteering map or running timed practice legs prior to the event will be disqualified from competition.

Long and Relay

The area of Woodhill Forest north of Rimmer Road, bounded by Hedley Road to the north and the Otakanini Topu block to the south, as shown in the map, is embargoed for the Long and Relay events.  This area is also private property.  Any competitors entering this area prior to the event will be disqualified from competition.

Woodhill Embargo for NISS Orienteering Champs 2022 (until completion of NISS Orienteering Champs)

Previous Maps

Click on the links below for examples of previous maps. The Long event is being run on the Deviation Road map in Te Ngahere o Woodhill, which includes the southern part of the large Hedley Dunes map previously used for WMOC 2017 and Nationals 2018, plus a newly mapped extension to the south. The Sprint event is being run on the Epsom Campus map, also used for the WMOC 2017 event.

Health and Safety Plans and Covid Contingencies

AOC is working closely with Orienteering NZ and School Sport New Zealand to be able to host the event in a safe manner that will meet all Covid-19 safety guidelines.  In planning the event we are assuming we will still be in level Orange at the time of the event, so the event is planned to go ahead under level Orange.  We must recognise however the Covid landscape is constantly evolving, making it difficult to say with certainty that the event will proceed.  If for example the Covid situation were to worsen and new restrictions are imposed by the Government or the sanctioning bodies we may no longer be able to run the event.  The safety of competitors, support teams and our volunteers will always be our number one priority.

Entries

Entries must be made using the entry form below. Pre-entry is essential.  The completed entry form should be emailed to Auckland Orienteering Club, auckoc@gmail.com. Download the Entry Information and Rules document below for a full description of the eligibility rules, event classes and level of difficulty.

Entry Form

Closing date for entries is Friday 8th July (midnight).  Note that this is the last day of term so can be a busy time.  We recommend getting entries in early.

The SPORTident (SI) contactless punching system will be used for all events. Both types of SI cards can be used: standard SI Cards which are inserted into the control or SI-Air Cards (SIAC) which are waved over the control. Competitors may use their own cards if they own one otherwise SI cards will be available for hire: standard SI Card $3 per event, SI-Air Card $5 per event.

Event Fees

The Long and Relay events will be held in Woodhill Forest, an area of world class orienteering terrain we are fortunate to have access to. It is also however a working forest so the owners pass on a charge to cover the costs of managing the security, administration and road maintenance of recreational groups using this facility. The fees below include the forest access levy.

Sprint  $ 15
Long $ 25 ($20 + $5 forest access levy)
Relay $ 25 ($20 + $5 forest access levy)
